I'm so happy to introduce Love Stories to the blog. Every month I will feature a love story to uplift, inspire and encourage you. This month I have the pleasure of sharing one of my favorite bloggers, Desiree of Beautifully Seaside love story. She shares how she met her hubby, the proposal and wedding, words of wisdom and more. In Desiree's words here goes...
How We Met
My husband and I first met in PE class, when I was in 10th grade and he was the only senior in the class. We never talked; however, I knew he was a great guy, because he always respected the teacher and did his best in all the activities. Our paths crossed again two weeks before I graduated high school, and we've been together ever since. I fell head-over-heels in love with him, because he was smart, stable, full of faith and has a great sense of humor. And he still makes me laugh to this day!
Proposal and Wedding
My husband proposed to me a few weeks after the category 5 Hurricane Andrew hit Miami in 1992. None of our homes had air conditioning a few weeks after the storm, and he popped the question after I had been helping my mom clean the house all day with no air conditioning! After he proposed, I quickly showered and we drove around to find the closest restaurant that had air conditioning to celebrate our engagement over lunch. I was 20, and he was 22. I was still going to school, and he had just graduated from the University of Florida.
We had a huge, beautiful wedding with about three hundred guests, thanks to our parents who paid for all of it! Everyone had a blast dancing the night away, and we left the next day for our tropical honeymoon in Mexico.
My husband and I started having children right away; and within a few months of our marriage in 1993, we were expecting our first of three boys, who is now a junior in college. Our second son is a senior in high school and our youngest is a sophomore. All three boys bring so much joy to our lives, and I thank the Lord for blessing us with them. We enjoy all kinds of activities as a family, and it's nice to see that our boys still enjoy being around us!
Words of Wisdom
The most important thing in my life is my faith. I've always been close to the Lord, and my faith has seen me through many hardships and disappointments. My faith in God has also brought me joy that no one else could give, and I make sure to share the Good News of Jesus with my boys all the time. These seeds of faith I planted in them when they were babies have grown into a faith in God that they can call their own. Some of the scriptures I share with my family and friends are:
I am with you always. Matthew 28:20 Take your thoughts captive. 2 Corinthians 10:5 The joy of the Lord is my strength. Nehemiah 8:10 I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Philippians 4:13 and Delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart. Psalm 37:4
The Single Most Important Thing
Jesus! He is my anchor and my rock in whom I trust. Before I do anything, I pray and ask the Lord to be in control.
My blog in itself is a blessing straight from the Lord. When my boys were little, I dreamed of doing exactly what I'm doing now-- sharing what I love with readers. Back then, there weren't any blogs; and creating a website proved to be too expensive for me to do. In 2010, I stumbled upon a blogger who was doing what I had dreamed of many years before. My heart sang, and I was thrilled to start my new blog the very next day for free! What began as a hobby with only a few readers, my husband and parents, has grown into something I would never have imagined. I thank the Lord for blessing me with the desires of my heart, and I'm so thankful to my family, friends and readers who have supported my blog throughout the years!
Three things behind the inspiration of my blog are: Coastal living, Hamptons style, and the movie "Something's Gotta Give." With these inspirations in mind; my goal is to share what I love in fashion, home design, food, and travel.I would like to thank Desiree for sharing her love story with us, it was inspiring! If you want to share your love story, please email a 500 word narrative to firstname.lastname@example.org.
